An Evening with August

High school scholars in the Capri After School Theater program (CAST) present scenes from seven August Wilson plays in An Evening with August on Wednesday, December 16, 7 p.m., at the Capri Theater,

2027 West Broadway. The performance is free and open to the public.

“August Wilson’s works give our students the chance to explore and discover their own history and culture in a new and very rich way. They see their parents, or grandparents, or uncles and aunts in his characters,” says CAST Artistic Director Kevin West. “And they are doing some magnificent work.”

Students will perform two and three-person scenes from Gem of the Ocean, Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, Seven Guitars and Fences, among others. “I challenge the students to do the work and reap the benefits; to see the beauty in what they’re doing, and to come together as an ensemble. When this happens, it’s really quite stunning,” said West. “I strongly encourage the community to come to the Capri and experience this work.”

The CAST program is free and open to all students currently enrolled in high school. Winter session runs January 4 through March 24, and the spring session will begin on April 4. To enroll or for info contact Kevin West at 612-643-2039 or kwest@pcyc-mpls.org.
