Free tickets – be at the Capri!

By Janet Zahn
Free tickets to hear world-class Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) musicians performing in the intimate setting of the Capri Theater are available beginning Monday, October 5. Free ticket reservations for the performance of The Art of the Transcription on October 29 at 7 p.m. will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at thecapritheater.org. The Capri is located at 2027 West Broadway.

The Art of the Transcription program includes:
Claude Debussy. Clair de lune for piano, flute, clarinet, violin and cello. Strings and winds are added to Claude Debussy’s beloved piano piece Clair de lune in an arrangement by American composer Margaret Brouwer. Arnold Schoenberg. Chamber Symphony, Opus 9 for piano, flute, clarinet, violin and cello. Arnold Schoenberg’s early 20th Century piece, Chamber Symphony, a core work of the SPCO repertoire, is performed in an arrangement by his pupil Anton Webern. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Grande Sestetto Concertante (after Sinfonia Concertante). Mozart’s glorious Sinfonia Concertante for string sextet, transcribed by an unknown but clearly gifted arranger.

“The Capri is a great venue for these concerts,” said Capri Director James Scott. “You really get to see and hear the musicians digging into the heart and soul of the music. And thanks to SPCO’s generous offer of free tickets this awe-inspiring experience is open to all. Come and join us!”

Tickets may also be purchased for $15 each or $33 for the three-concert Capri season (guaranteed, general seating admission) at thespco.org or call the SPCO box office at 651-291-1144.

This is the sixth year that SPCO has performed a series of chamber concerts at the Capri. The SPCO/Capri partnership has attracted new audiences for both organizations, and the series is now an established and treasured asset of the Northside community.
