After a very long hiatus, the Capri Theater will once again open its doors to the film-going public, thanks to the Capri’s new partnership with the Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP Film). “Many people have fond memories of going to movies at the Capri ‘back in the day,’ said Capri Director James Scott. “Now it’s a ‘new day’ for this theater as we work with the Film Society to bring great films to our Northside community on a regular basis.”
First Thursday Films will be screened at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at the Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway, beginning November 5. Tickets are $5 at the door. Filmmakers will be invited to meet and discuss their films with audiences each night.
The first film scheduled for First Thursday Films @ the Capri is The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, a multi-award-winning documentary directed by Stanley Nelson (Freedom Riders), examining
the rise of the Black Panther Party in the 1960s and its impact on civil rights and American culture.
Other films planned for the series include: Cooley High, directed by Michael Schultz, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of this classic film. Girlhood, by French director Celine Sciamma, an award-winning narrative film exploring the many facets of young female identity. And Fresh Dressed, directed by Sacha Jenkins.
