ViNA July 2015

Become a Victory Environmental Steward

When it rains, the water that runs off our houses, lawns, sidewalks and driveways can carry pollutants into storm sewers and into Crystal Lake, Ryan Lake and Shingle Creek. Some of these include pet waste, grass clippings and leaves, things we don’t normally think of as pollutants, but in truth they all contribute to algae blooms that kill fish. One grocery bag of grass clippings grows enough algae in our lakes to cover six city blocks!

The ViNA Environmental Committee wants to remind everyone how they can help to reduce the pollution going down the ‘drains’ to our lakes and rivers and how that will help to improve the quality of our precious water resources. We have signs and door hangers ready that will bring the issue to everyone’s attention and residents can use them to remind their neighbors about the practices that contribute to the problem. We are hoping to place a sign on every block in the neighborhood. If you would like to be the “environmental steward” for your block, please contact the ViNA office and a sign will be delivered to you.
