Beaver tries to move into Camden

By Dan Lynch

At 6:30 a.m. on May 28 a large beaver was observed by postal workers at the Lowry Post Office. Things were quiet. The beaver appreciated the solitude while moving freely in the area. As the day wore on things became too confusing for the 65-pound new neighbor. He managed to burrow under a fence bordering Cleveland Park and the Lowry Station Post Office. Lucy Laney students were kept away from the hide-out during their school day.
Several agencies took on the task of animal rescue and release. Minneapolis Animal Control arrived about 2:30 p.m. Catching a large wild animal seemed very challenging. The staff devised the correct technique and equipment to accomplish the task. The beaver seemed annoyed by the attention from Animal Control. But for its cooperation, a free ride back to the Mississippi was granted.
